A roman centurian epic of a "meh" caliber

Ok so thats all that Imdb gave me for a story.....There is actually more to it than that, not much but still more.

Verdict: Okay so lets say this, it had some great cinematography, and a lot of blood.

Now the bad,

theres a bit to say, there are a few plot lines that go no where. The main character gets captured and gets loose, and thats about it. It kinda gets forgotten, at first you think its gonna be a "Avatar-ish" plot-line, where the hero learns the value of hard work, and family. Nope, he just gets loose and runs. Thats where that plot ends. Okay next, CG blood, and a lot of it. I wish they would have gone with practical effects. The sword hits throw cg blood into the air with a carefree nature. It was almost like they where saying "hey look fake blood" Yeah thats a pretty small complaint. Its worst crime, the overall blandness of this film. Whether or not you can handle the plot line that ends out of nowhere, or the fake blood. It just isn't a very interesting film, There are some interesting characters, that die within a half an hour. The main character just isn't one you care about. It tries to be interesting by making the romans the bad guys so you wanna not root for them. To bad, Avatar, The Last Samurai, and Dances with wolves did that but also added character development. Thats what Centurion is missing development. I mean yeah, there is some near the end but not enough to salvage it. From drowning in blandness.

Overall: 5/10 It just is so "meh"

Wow, a long time for an update.

After thinking about it I have decided that, this blog about movies will becomes a blog about everything entertainment. From Comics, movies, Tv, and sometimes a book or two. Also probably the news i am most excited about i will shortly in the future be doing a webcomic, and setting up a review website. But long story short, I am back to review movies and actually keep track of this blog.

How to train your dragon!

Plot: Young Hiccup is a young boy trying to find his place in a world of vikings and Dragons. Hiccup isn't your usual viking he is small and short and rather cowardly. At the beginning of the film we see him as a aspiring young viking ready to kill dragons. Upon using a gadget that Bruce Wayne would be jealous of he catches a infamous Nightfury. Nightfurys are the most dangerous of all dragons and have never been seen. What the plot turns into is a rather original version of a very cliche idea. The bonding of man and beast

Overall thoughts: This is hands down the best CG movie in about 6 or so years rivaled only by Toy Story 3. How to train your dragon is what pixar should be making. It treats its viewers like we have intelligence unlike some Pixar films *coughcarscough*. How to train your dragon doesn't have a single bit of redneck down yonder humor like certain Disney films. Its a film that is surprisingly dark and dramatic but has some great comedic bits. The voice actors pull this off very well from Craig Ferguson, to Gerald Butler

all are handled wonderfully. Now for what a lot of people wonder with any CG film, how does it look? Fantastic, its world is one of battles, dragons, vikings, and dark and bright scenery and it is all brought vividly to life by the wonderful animation that is a bit cartoonish at times but not to the point of Cloudy with a chance of meatballs. Every time i see the scene of Hiccup and the dragon, toothless taking there first flight i get chills. By the end of the film emotions have run the gamet, you a have felt happy,sad,angry and everything in between.

Score: 9.5 out of 10 A near perfect film, that needed a little bit more originality to be flawless, take note Disney, this is how you make a movie. Fun fact in case you were wondering Pixar has done zero fantasy based films, there last films have been, Indie (wall-e), Family fun (UP) and sequel (Toy Story 3)

The Strangers: This is a movie about .........*shudder* here let Wikipedia do the talking

The Strangers is a 2008 American psychological horror and thriller film written and directed by Bryan Bertino, and starring Liv Tyler, Scott Speedman, Gemma Ward, Laura Margolis, Kip Weeks and Glenn Howerton. The film revolves around a young couple who is terrorized by three masked assailants, who break into the remote summer home in which they are staying and damage all means of escape. Yep thats about it the plot is not a highly intricate web of intrigue and twists, Just Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman being terrorized

Does it work?: Yes......and then some. This is one of the scariest films ever filmed in my mind. What a slasher being terrifying you ask? How so well take the slasher elements out and add a lot of realism and enough tension to snap a two by four.The tension is reminiscent of waiting for a balloon to pop. You wait and wait and it pops, or this sense has a jumpscene. The are several great scenes that are very well shot. The film takes place 90% at night, and when the daylight comes it still is not safe. The darkness is almost a character of itself, concealing the masked killers. The backround is the enemy. So many scares come from the back of shot. It keeps you on your toes. The single day scene is shot so its almost out of focus and has a very grainy feeling to it. So yes it works, there are a few faults the characters do act very stupidly at times, and the film faulters a little when the characters actually make it outside and start running around, it loses a lot of tension.

Overall Score: 7.5/10 Terrifying, and a little lacking in the story and likable characters. I recommend it if you feel like being scared and want a story to be just kind of there.

The midnight meat train!

Plot: The film opens as a well dressed, barrel chested man stalks the late-night passengers of a subway train. He kills several people with a meat hammer and a butcher's hook. He dispatches his prey with unnatural strength. He wears a ring on his finger, adorned with an eight pointed star. We are then introduced to Leon (Bradley Cooper), a photographer who heads into the city's subway system at night to take photographs and saves a woman from a group of guys harassing her. The next day, he discovers the girl has gone missing. Leon is intrigued and begins to investigate newsreels about similar disappearances. His investigation leads him to a butcher named Mahogany (Vinnie Jones), who he suspects has been killing subway passengers for as long as ten years.

Does it work? Yes and pretty effectively. Vinnie Jones plays a very intimidating and creepy killer. Where as Bradley Cooper plays very well as a opposite. Bradley Cooper is great to watch in the role as he slowly loses his sanity and goes deeper into the rabbit hole.The movie itself is a very well shot. Style abounds as blood, eyes and a few limbs fly. The blood is water thin and the bright blood adds to the style during some intense scenes.Each shot builds on the suspense and disturbing nature of each scene. There are a couple of stand out shots, One of vinnie jones just sitting on a bench while the world buzzes around him while he waits to board the train. So is it scary ? Yes and no, Its got some really great suspenseful moments that keep you heart racing, but it has very little jumpscenes. It isn't without its flaws, it doesn't explain a lot until the very end. At that point its so rushed and it still doesn't explain everything. Even without the explainations it still makes one heck of a horror film. So in short yes, yes it does works but it has a few plot holes that are pretty obvious.

Rating: 8/10 A standout for its cinemotgraphy in the straight to dvd market. Check this out if you are in the mood for some good horror and aren't looking for a long winded story. Not for the faint of heart

Cornered!

Plot:During their nightly poker game, a group of lowlife friends bring up a string of recent brutal murders at gas stations. The group gets locked in at a gas station one of them owns after the keys get lost, the group talks about collecting the bounty placed on the killer's head. But as the night wears on, the group's number falls as the killer stalks them one by one. (taken from wikipedia)

Does it work? Ehhhhhhhh........well, this is by far one of the most character driven horror films i have ever seen. That being said, it is a little too character driven, and too little centered on the horror. It just isn't scary or unnerving.Does that mean its a bad movie. No, it is simply just a mediocre film. It does have some great -albeit cliche- characters. You have the Lovable loser, the "attractive" girl, the douchey boss of the loser, the drug addict friend/relative, a a larger phone sex operator(i kid you not), and the lovable delivery guy (played by steve Guttenberg). The characters all interact very well with each other, and are decently acted. The film also has its share of dark humor. So its a slasher and on everyone's mind is how is the gore? ........it is fairly tame compared to the likes of Hostel,Texas Chainsaw masscre or any saw film. Its fairly tame compared to alot of films, the violence is very cut away and very restrained. So all in all, Cornered! is a film that is pretty well stuck at a bit under average or average. I'll recommend it if you can borrow it or you really need a slasher fix and you aren't near Scream,TCM, or Friday the 13th

Overall: 4.5/10 : A meh film but not quite horrific
